OutSpent

About

We read the receipts the powerful file.

The people writing the checks in Washington can afford to be in the room. Most people can't even see the door. OutSpent exists to close that gap — to make the money impossible to un-see, and to put a way to fight back one tap away.

Why this exists

Billions of dollars get spent every year to shape the laws you live under. By statute, much of it is filed in public — and almost no one reads it, because it's buried in dense government disclosures. The problem was never that the information is secret. It's that it's unreadable, and that nothing connects it to what you can actually do. We fix both.

What we do

We follow the money — lobbying spending and campaign contributions — and line it up against the votes it bought, in plain English, with the receipts. The Playbook shows you exactly how it works. How We Got Here shows you why. And Take Action turns the anger into a message your own representatives actually receive.

Non-partisan, on purpose

Both parties run on this money. Both defend the system that delivers it. We don't carry water for a team — our target is the system, and the only side we take is yours. This was never left versus right. It's concentrated money versus everyone else.

Honest to a fault

Before we built this, we tested whether “following the money” could predict the stock market. It can't — and we'll tell you that plainly, because we're not here to sell you a trade. We're here for accountability, not profit. Every number is sourced to its filing. We'd rather show fewer claims we can stand behind than a single one we can't.

Who's behind it

OutSpent is an independent project. No fund behind it, no party behind it — just a conviction that records this consequential shouldn't take a research team to read, and that being informed should lead somewhere besides despair.
